2020 Impact Accelerator Profile: A Spirit of Joy Organic Skincare

Sami Jensen • Feb 12, 2020

Meet the entrepreneurs participating in the 2020 Impact Accelerator! A Spirit of Joy Organic Skin Care is an organic skincare company that creates safe alternatives to commercial products.

Venture Name : A Spirit of Joy Organic Skincare

Members:  Jaclyn Carter, Founder & CEO

Venture Description : A Spirit of Joy Organic Skin Care provides safe alternatives to commercial products. We create products that pamper & protect the skin, while eliminating exposure to additives, chemicals & carcinogens.

Why did you apply to the Impact Accelerator?
I applied to the Impact Accelerator to gain insight and resources that will assist me in taking my business where I would like it to go. I also know that a think tank environment with like minded business owners will strengthen my own acumen, thereby, my success.

What makes you the most qualified to start this particular business?
The entire foundation for me starting this business was to provide a solution that did not exist. As a Mother, you leverage any and all expertise you have (or need to acquire) to solve for any issue your child may have. My qualification to start this business rests squarely in my resourcefulness, my research and cooking/creation capabilities, and the fact that I AM my target consumer.

How does your company create a positive social or environmental impact?
Bringing awareness to safety in skin care products is an extremely important initiative!  We take great pride in supplying consumers with information, so that they are empowered to make good choices for themselves and their families.  Education is power and when society heightens awareness, we enable ourselves to do better.  Additionally, A Spirit of Joy products are handcrafted (and largely) organic, vegan and fair trade. Our products are also packaged in recyclable glass containers, in order to avoid the leeching of various toxins that occurs when products are stored in plastic containers.

If you were to win the $10,000 grand prize at the Venture Showcase, what would you do with it?
I am looking to achieve specific goals for the next phase of my business growth.  I would like to rent commercial space for production, hire an assistant to support production and forge business relationships/ collaborations to increase demand and distribution, which will thereby fund further growth.  The Venture Showcase award would also enable me to invest in raw materials and supplies at a more economical price point.
