reSET, a Hartford nonprofit that helps New England entrepreneurs with environmental and/or social missions, has teamed up again with a local insurer that supports nonprofits.

GoodWorks Insurance, a Glastonbury-based insurance agency, recently gave a $5,000 grant to reSET, which works to advance the social enterprise sector. The unrestricted funds will go towards reSET’s operations and enable it to apply for matching funds from the U.S. Economic Development Administration.

GoodWorks Insurance donates half of its profits to local nonprofits via GoodWorks Community Grants. It made a similar donation to reSET in 2016.

“GoodWorks is in a league of its own for creating good in the communities it serves,” said reSET managing director Ojala Naeem. “Besides being one of the one of the state’s most successful insurance agencies, they’re a great example of a company that’s doing much more than turning a profit. They’re committed to supporting the next generation of businesses.”

As a reSET general partner, GoodWorks Insurance will collaborate with reSET to run workshops on insurance and risk management for the entrepreneurial community. reSET members and their employees will be eligible for business, individual and group insurance programs offered by GoodWorks.

“Supporting reSET fits in perfectly with our philosophy to support the community,” said GoodWorks Insurance vice president Matt Furst. “Our first year with them has been great, and we look forward our continuing partnership.”

reSET serves entrepreneurs who are creating solutions for some of our most pressing problems, from climate change to food and water insecurity to post-incarceration reentry, Naeem said.

Besides Glastonbury, GoodWorks Insurance has other Connecticut offices in Avon, Columbia and New Milford, plus western Massachusetts and Walnut Creek, California. It offers home, auto and business insurance, surety bonds, and employee benefits, including health insurance and 401(k) plans.

Founded in 2006, GoodWorks Insurance (www.goodworksinsurance.com) is one of America’s fastest-growing insurance agencies. Its mission of “Purpose Beyond Profit” is fulfilled through GoodWorks Community Grants.

reSET (www.reSETCo.org) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is advancing the social enterprise sector. Its strategic goals are threefold: to be the “go-to” place for impact entrepreneurs, to make Hartford known as Impact City, and Connecticut the Social Enterprise state. reSET serves all entrepreneurs but specializes in social enterprise – impact-driven business with a double or triple bottom line.

In addition to providing coworking space, accelerator and mentoring programs, reSET aims to inspire innovation and community collaboration, and to support entrepreneurs in creating market-based solutions to community challenges. reSET’s goal is to meet entrepreneurs wherever they are in their trajectory and to help them take their businesses to the next level.
