2020 Impact Accelerator Profile: Loxley + Leaf

Sami Jensen • February 12, 2020

Meet the entrepreneurs participating in the 2020 Impact Accelerator! Loxley + Leaf crafts natural, plant-based home fragrances.

Venture Name : Loxley + Leaf

Members: Tim Curtis & Staci Stamm, co-owners & makers

Venture Description : Loxley + Leaf crafts modernly styled natural, plant-based candles, incense, and reed diffusers for any space. All products scented with unique handcrafted essential oil blends, exclusive to our brand.

Why did you apply to the Impact Accelerator?
We’ve spent the past few years defining our brand, diversifying our product line, and sharing our story and products through in-person sales events like maker markets and craft shows. We’re ready to take the next step, looking to expand and transition to wholesale distribution outside of our little New England community, as well as educate consumers to be more conscious about ingredients used in products they buy from companies they choose to support. We applied because the Impact Accelerator looked like an amazing opportunity to collaborate with and learn from other entrepreneurs, giving us new insight into strategies to work towards our lofty goal. Where we would like to see our business grow has a lot of gray areas and we were unsure how best to build, and where to first concentrate our efforts. We’ve got some ideas, we think we’re in pretty decent shape, but we are also excited, humbled, and grateful for the chance to utilize the tools and resources a dynamic program like reSET’s Impact Accelerator has to offer so that we can regroup and take off in the best direction possible.

What makes you the most qualified to start this particular business?

We’ve consciously made the commitment to ensure all our ingredients are natural, plant-based, and biodegradable, and are completely transparent with all the ingredients we use, publishing them on our labels for each and every product that leaves our studio. There are other small home fragrance companies that market their products as “natural” but are not transparent in publishing the ingredients they use, and do not exclusively use natural ingredients. We believe we can set ourselves apart with our commitment to plant-based ingredients and transparency in our making process. Also, we work very well together and openly acknowledge that each of us brings a unique skillset to our business. Tim has a background in graphic design and marketing, knowing how to sell a product and how to make it look a certain way to appeal to our target demographic. Staci is an educator which makes her very communicative, people oriented, and efficient with task management. We both emulate the maker lifestyle, are very innovative and capable creators, and have a keen sense of scent which helps us craft unique essential oil blends to set us apart from competitors.

How does your company create a positive social or environmental impact?

We believe in making wholesome products that are safe, natural, and clean. All of our ingredients are plant-based, biodegradable, ethically sourced. Wherever possible, we’ve opted for recycled packaging and sustainable, reusable containers to minimize our products’ environmental footprint. We’re committed to donating a portion of our profits to a rotating cast of amazing charities, doing important, difficult work which resonates across communities and throughout the world we share.

If you were to win the $10,000 grand prize at the Venture Showcase, what would you do with it?
We would love to build up our inventory and invest in building up our wholesale representation. We would like to fund applications to attend bigger events for wholesale businesses to market our products to companies seeking to carry our inventory. Also we would be able to expand our production studio to be able to store more inventory and streamline our processes more efficiently to manage our supply chain.
