2020 Impact Accelerator Profile: Preppers Meal Prep

Sami Jensen • February 12, 2020

Meet the entrepreneurs participating in the 2020 Impact Accelerator! Preppers Meal Prep is a community service that provides clean meals on the go.

Venture Name : Preppers Meal Prep

Members: Chevon Schand, Owner. The company operates with four kitchen staff and four meal packing staff.

Venture Description : Preppers Meal Prep is a community service that provides clean meals on the go.  A flavorful and convenient option for those too busy to eat healthily. Preppers has a wide range of items to choose from ranging from surf to turf to vegan, salads, soups, along with healthy treats to round out our fully customizable menu.

Why did you apply to the Impact Accelerator?
The Accelerator is an awesome opportunity to gain the necessary knowledge, resources and network to take my business to the next level. I take the tools very seriously, for they can help shorten the learning curve as an entrepreneur and possibly lower the entrance into the market that Preppers is poised to penetrate.  I was a part of the 2019 Food Incubator at reSET during the infancy stages of my business, and it played a huge part in my early success and instilled in me the confidence to overcome those hurdles as a startup company.

What makes you the most qualified to start this particular business?
Preppers is here to make anyone’s life easier who also takes their nutrition and dieting seriously. I am the personification of this need, I am currently employed full time as an operations professional in charge of production, inventory, customer contact, and general plant operations. I have 10+ years of management experience and have led multiple teams to many victorious milestones. I am educated in Accounting, Management, and Economics and have taken and translated this knowledge mainly through the lens of an entrepreneur.  Being a business owner and community leader has always been the end goal.  I was a college wrestler and semi-pro football player for many years. This knowledge of fitness combined with an early love for the culinary arts created what Preppers is today and what it represents.

How does your company create a positive social or environmental impact?
Preppers Meal Prep is a resource in the community. A resource that provides access to our most valuable asset, time. Along with guidance and support with one of the societies most uninformed topics, nutrition.  What can one do with these two resources that Preppers creates?  They can build their business, create more memories with their family spend the extra time finishing that assignment for school. The professional athlete can maintain proper diet while maximizing physical and mental performance. The human diet is directly connected to our physical and mental well-being. In order to maximize ourselves in any goal, we must have the proper fuel and available time.

If you were to win the $10,000 grand prize at the Venture Showcase, what would you do with it?
If given the opportunity to be awarded this money Preppers would benefit greatly.   We would take these funds and allocate them to a more efficient and convenient location; this would allow us to open up a 2 nd and 3 rd stream of revenue for the business.   We would also acquire a catering vehicle to ensure logistics of our operation is secure.   This will also allow us to expand our customer reach.   In addition to these things the basic and day to day operations as a startup can be quite costly, especially when you’re not yet scaled enough to benefit from high volume purchases and commercial account.   These funds would help keep the business operation effectively while giving us the wiggle room to focus on increasing sales and additional market value in the company.
