Public Hearing Date set for H.B. 6356

ewalsh • February 26, 2013

As we wave good-bye to February, and say hello to March and (hopefully) some warmer weather, things are really starting to pick up at the Capitol.

H.B. 6356, Governor Malloy’s proposed benefit corporation bill, will take its first step in a long journey towards becoming a law this Thursday, February 28th, when it is considered during a Public Hearing before the Commerce Committee of the Connecticut General Assembly.

Last year, testimony from reSET supporters during the public hearing process was critical in getting social enterprise legislation passed through both the Commerce and Judiciary Committees of Connecticut’s General Assembly. This year, we think our chances of getting H.B. 6356 to the floor of both the House and Senate is better than ever. However, we need your support in helping it pass this first step of legislative review.

We have assembled several resources designed to help you prepare either written or in-person testimony on our website. If you are interested in lending your voice to bring benefit corporations to Connecticut, please review this information, and contact me directly at jwoulfe@www.socialenterprisetrust.org

For those of you who are planning to join us in person on the 28th, an overview of the personal testimony process is up on our webpage. Please review this and also let us know that you are coming so that we can help provide you with further directions to the LOB and welcome you there that day.

If you can’t make it to the hearing, we’d greatly appreciate it if you would be willing to submit written testimony. Guidelines for drafting written testimony are also up on our website, along with a sample testimony letter in order to make this process as simple as possible for you.

We look forward to keeping you updated on H.B. 6356’s progress as it makes its way through the legislative process. Make sure to check back in with us each week with more news about reSET’s work to bring benefit corporations to Connecticut.
